Unity College, Northampton

One of the four roof terminations providing mixing ventilation for the hall
Recently E-Stack Ltd has installed the e-stack
® natural ventilation system in the
new block at Unity College, Northampton. As well as installing mixing ventilation
stacks in three of the music rooms, we also developed a strategy of Talking Stacks
for the new 300 person hall. This new innovation includes four e-stack
® controlled
stacks which communicate and provide controlled, naturally pre-heated mixing
ventilation in cold winter conditions, effectively recycling the internal heat gains
through natural pre-heating of the ventilation air.

Monitoring of the new development, which has been carried out with support of
The Carbon Trust, suggests that the system is maintaining low CO
2 levels in the
space, and also that the pre-heating through mixing is very effective at preventing
cold draughts developing in the seating zone and stage areas.
